Xenon
The Aloof

Quote
Careful of drifting off
Now losing taste and touch
Turning a pale blue leaning in to say
This body's left the soul
The brain needs oxygen
Can't sneak around this bait
His catacomb has got me by the chin
This body's left the soul

Xenon is the essence of the element with a corresponding name, coming from the Earth's atmosphere in trace amounts. He's an experiment in a sense, bringing life to an element to utilize it's functions, and could easily be considered an alien. The main use for this essence is as an anesthetic, being brought into hospitals as a surgeons assistant most of the time. When he focuses on his touch, he can ease a patients' pain, calm them, allow them to drift to sleep, and put them under full anesthesia for surgery. He can monitor the patients' level of sleep, and increase the dosage without interruption. Some say he was made to prevent the rare case of a patient being conscious enough to feel the pain of surgery, but unable to move.

Since he has his own conscious and thoughts, he has his views on his work. If he believes a patient cannot be saved, he ends their suffering, giving them an overdose of the essence so they'll drift into that endless sleep of death, but will only do this by his own means and keeps word to himself. Since people seem so different from himself, he doesn't quite view them as highly as others do, and doesn't get attached to saving his patients as easily. He cannot use his own ability to numb his own wounds, but those are never often nor severe.

His attitude seems cold at first, not minding attention when it's given but, it's as if he doesn't really care. He has a lazy disposition, sluggish even, but he's diligent in his work and will do what is asked of him without question. Coming from the near reaches of space, he'll often become homesick, longing to be free once again, but he's made to think his work is here on Earth, and he keeps himself silent about his wants and wishes, silencing that urge to return home.
